I visited Ashikaga Flower Park in May 2022 โ€” and honestly, I took so many photos I couldn't stop! It's one of Japan's most famous flower gardens, and the wisteria there is absolutely breathtaking. If you love flowers, this place belongs on your bucket list.

๐ŸŒธ Timing is everything

When I visited, the white wisteria was in full, glorious bloom โ€” just beautiful, like a soft white curtain hanging from the sky. However, the purple wisteria โ€” the park's most famous attraction, the great "ลŒfuji" (ๅคง่—ค) โ€” was just past its peak. I was a little early for the purple, a little late for the peak season. Still stunning, but I did feel a tiny bit of "I wish I'd come a week earlier!"

The thing is, different types of wisteria bloom at different times. At Ashikaga, you can see:

๐Ÿ’œ Purple wisteria (ลŒfuji) โ€” the most famous, the most dramatic. Peak season is usually late April to early May.
๐Ÿค White wisteria โ€” blooms a little later, soft and elegant.
๐Ÿ’› Yellow wisteria โ€” a rare and lovely variety, slightly different from the others.

๐Ÿ’ก My tip: If seeing the purple wisteria is your goal, call the park before you go to confirm the current bloom status. The blooming season can shift by a week or two depending on the year's weather. Don't leave it to chance โ€” one phone call can save your trip!

๐Ÿ”๏ธ What's around the park?

I want to be honest with you โ€” especially if you're visiting from overseas and planning a full day trip. The park itself is absolutely gorgeous inside. But the area surrounding it is mostly mountains and countryside. There isn't much to do or see right outside the gates, so plan your day around the park itself.

That said, on the drive there, I passed a Michi-no-Eki (้“ใฎ้ง…) โ€” a Japanese roadside station. These are wonderful little stops where local farmers sell seasonal produce and plants at very reasonable prices. When I stopped by, I found German iris seedlings for just ยฅ200 each! I couldn't believe it. If you're a plant lover, definitely stop at any Michi-no-Eki you see along the way โ€” you might just find a beautiful plant to bring home at a bargain price. ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Admission prices & parking

The entrance fee at Ashikaga Flower Park changes depending on the season. During peak wisteria season (especially when the purple ลŒfuji is in bloom), prices go up significantly. Outside of that peak window, when fewer flowers are blooming, the admission tends to be lower. It's worth checking their official website for current pricing before your visit.

Parking is fairly large, but during peak purple wisteria season, it can fill up fast. When I visited during the white wisteria period (just after peak), I managed to find a spot, but it was in the far section of the lot. During the most popular weeks, you may need to park quite a distance away and walk โ€” so wear comfortable shoes! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

๐Ÿ’ก In summary: Ashikaga Flower Park is 100% worth visiting โ€” just plan ahead! Check the bloom forecast, call if needed, arrive early for parking, and stop at a Michi-no-Eki on the way. You won't regret it. ๐ŸŒธ
